Charms to Please Old Gods

Charms to Please Old Gods

1.
Bits of lace
And blood,
Clasped hands in

2.
Moonlight bonfires,
Hearth-bound altars
Of hope for

3.
Hands in dirt
And dragonflies.
Tree root wristlets.

4.
Firelight, masks
And lucid dreaming.
Opals and topaz. Burn

5.
Rosemary and thyme,
Oak leaves and acorns,
Shape the course of

6.
A Dreamer dancing,
Stones standing,
Shadows hung with

7.
Words sung, shouted,
Shaped and penned
With quills, until

8.
Smoke rings and
Twisted wreaths,
Carve twilight

9.
Candles and feathers
And prayer.
Remembrance.

  2. Hi Donna, thanks for your lovely comment on my blog.

This poem is perfect...I love the way each leads into the next...all the different ways of worshipping whatever name we give divine spirit (how I think of it) all seamlessly linked together, all one. Beautiful.

BTW, I studied Medieval History at uni for a year many moons ago. Unfortunately at 17/18 yo I wasn't very dedicated to study, but it has remained an interest ever since!

  3. @ Mermaid: Thank you for stopping by and for the kind comment on my poem!

I blame my medievalist tendencies on reading many, many King Arthur stories as a child :~) but there really is so much to love about that time period!
